Two weeks before her shocking Dec. 20 death, Brittany Murphy appeared skinnier than ever.
Wearing a short black dress by designer pal Tiffany Saidnia, the actress looked emaciated as she walked the red carpet Dec. 3 for the opening of Tt Collection's Pop-Up shop in Los Angeles. One online blogger wrote that her dress "hung to her skin and bones frame."
Despite her disturbing appearance, Murphy appeared to be in good spirits. "I've been very blessed to have a really great loving husband," she told Access Hollywood, referring to director Simon Monjack, whom she wed in 2007. "I spend more time with my family than anyone else in the world."
She also revealed her goal for 2010. "As far as having a New Year's resolution, I'd love to have a child next year," she said. "But that's kind of a large one!"
She also turned heads Dec. 1 at the L.A. premiere of indie film Across the Hall, which she shot in 2008.
Her red carpet appearances came shortly after Murphy stopped working on a film in Puerto Rico.
Internet reports claimed that she was fired, but her rep denied the rumors, saying, "She was not nor has she ever been fired from any job big or small ... [Due] to creative differences Ms. Murphy and the production mutually parted ways."

Eating disorders occur when a person’s attitude about food, weight and body size lead to very rigid eating and exercise habits that jeopardize one’s health, happiness and safety. Eating disorders may begin as a way to lose a few pounds, but these behaviors can quickly get out of control, become obsessions and may even turn into an eating disorder.
Eating disorders are not due to failure of will or behavior; rather, they are real, treatable medical illnesses in which certain maladaptive patterns of eating take on a life of their own. The main types of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. A third type, binge-eating disorder, has been suggested but has not yet been approved as a formal psychiatric diagnosis.
Many people with eating disorders experience depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and childhood sexual abuse, and may be at risk for osteoporosis and heart problems. Death rates for eating disorders are among the highest for any mental illness.
Eating disorders are on the rise and more than 90 percent of those who have them are women. No one knows exactly what causes eating disorders. However, all socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural groups are at risk.
What are some factors that can contribute to eating disorders?

People with eating disorders also may engage in self-induced vomiting and abuse of laxatives, diuretics or exercise in order to control their weight. People with this disorder see themselves as overweight even though they are dangerously thin. The condition may lead them to become emaciated and, in severe cases, anorexia can be life-threatening.

Because many people with bulimia “binge and purge” in secret and maintain normal or above the normal body weight, they can often hide the disorder from others.

People with binge-eating disorder experience frequent episodes of out-of-control eating, with the same binge-eating symptoms as those with bulimia. The main difference is that individuals with binge-eating disorder do not purge their bodies of excess calories. Therefore, many with the disorder are overweight for their age and height. Feelings of self-disgust and shame associated with this illness can lead to binging again, creating a cycle of binge eating.

Eating disorders are most successfully treated when diagnosed early. The longer abnormal eating behaviors persist, the more difficult they are to overcome. In some cases, long-term treatment and hospitalization is required. Presently, there is no universally accepted standard treatment for eating disorders. Ideally, an integrated approach to treatment involves medical care, psychosocial interventions, and nutritional counseling. Certain selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) have been shown to be helpful for weight maintenance and for resolving mood and anxiety symptoms associated with anorexia. People with eating disorders often do not recognize or admit that they are ill. As a result, they may strongly resist getting and staying in treatment. Family members and other trusted individuals may be helpful in ensuring that the person with an eating disorder receives needed care and rehabilitation.
What is body image?
The idealization of thinness has caused distorted body image and unrealistic measures of beauty and success. Cultural and media influences such as TV, magazines and movies reinforce the belief that women should be more concerned with their appearance than with their own ideas or achievements. Research has shown that many normal weight and even underweight girls are dissatisfied with their body and are choosing inappropriate behaviors to control their appetite and food intake.

Posture Your posture is the main key to look thinner no only in photos, but also as you walk through your daily life. Practice pulling your shoulders back and keeping your head held high. No need to walk around with a book on your head. This is a total distraction and quite unnatural.
Conceal If you are holding an object in the photo, hold the object over the area you wish to conceal. For example, accept awards near your belly to look thinner when the photo is snapped. Purses and jackets can be held in front of the body quite naturally to appear thinner.
Pose The way you pose in front of the camera is important. To look thinner, put one foot in front, pointing your toe to the camera. In this position, place all your weight on your back foot. This allows you to look thinner by centering your weight away from the camera.
Twist Slightly twist your hips away from the camera so that your hips are not square to the photographer. If your hips are at an angle, this helps to shrink your width and you will appear thinner.
Chin Lift To avoid the double chin effect, push your chin forward toward the camera. This tip helps to elongate your neck, smoothing out the double chin and you'll look thinner.

Stretch it forward. * Don't press your arms to the sides. * Stand sideways to the camera with chest up * Cross legs while sitting * Watch what is cloest to the camera - because that's what appears the larges. * Look away from the camera and before the click, turn towards lens with a slight smile. * Never snap photos from below. It adds 20-50 pounds to the 10 pounds automatically added by the camera. The photographer needs to shoot from sightly above, to smooth out the neck and make the face and body appear slimmer. * Tans and fake tans make you look healthier and thinner. * Wear black and white * Wear an entire outfit in just 1 color * Avoid wearing large amounts of white
